The Flatwoods Monster & My Family

Ever learn something interesting about your family at your family reunion? I did! I found out that my dads family is the reason we have the “Flatwoods Monster” folklore. Here’s the story according to the History Channel. They even called in the Air Force on this one!

The monster is featured in the video game Fallout 76, which is why we were talking about it. My dad said that his cousins were the ones that originally saw the monster in September of 1952 and reported it to the authorities. To this day they stick by what they saw.

Then to make it even cooler, I found out that my cousin Dale (Dale Morton Studio Mascot Costumes) made the Flatwoods Monster costume for the museum in Braxton County, WV! It was fate! (BTW, he also made the Mothman costume for the Point Pleasant museum too).

Enjoyed sharing this w/ my dad. Have you ever learned something interesting, neat or bizarre about your family?

Sherry
