Vacation has come and gone for the Taylor Family this year and sometimes it’s nice to have time off and not go anywhere! That’s what we did and honestly is was very relaxing. We didn’t stay home everyday, we took day trips to some of our favorite local spots. None of these places was more than an hour away. If you’re looking at a “staycay” or maybe just a quick day trip somewhere close, here’s what we did.
Holocaust Museum in Richmond ~ FREE admission and a beautifully put together museum about one of the most horrific time periods in our history. A must see.
Poe Museum in Richmond ~ $8 tickets, but definitely worth it to learn more about the man who lived in VA for a portion of his life between Richmond and Charlottesville. It’s also housed in the oldest known building in Richmond.
Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center Trail ~ FREE and I honestly don’t know the proper name for this one, but it’s that little mountain village at the base of the Hump Back Rock Area on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We go there a lot and decided to visit this week. Thankfully for us the demonstrators were there too and the little house was open. A lady playing banjo on the front porch gave us our first banjo lesson. It was very fun. Here’s a pic of my son and I both giving it a try.
I really wanted to visit Historic St John’s Church in Richmond, but we ran out of time. I plan to go back though this summer. ~ FREE.
We had a nice “staycay”. Any other ideas for us? There’s still plenty of summer to fill!!!
