Signs of Heatstroke & Local Cooling Centers

It is downright hot this week and we know that it will stay this way for a while, so it’s very important for you to know the signs of heatstroke and when you should call 911 in case of heatstroke. Here are the signs according to webmd.com

  • Throbbing headache.
  • Dizziness and light-headedness.
  • Lack of sweating despite the heat.
  • Red, hot, and dry skin.
  • Muscle weakness or cramps.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Rapid heartbeat, which may be either strong or weak.
  • Rapidshallow breathing.

Also here are the cooling centers in the city if you need to get out of the heat. According to charlottesville.org.

Key Recreation Center is located at 800 E. Market Street. The hours of operation are 5 pm to 9 pm Monday through Friday; 1 pm to 6 pm Saturday and Sunday.
* Wednesday, July 4th hours will be from 12 pm to 4 pm

Tonsler Recreation Center is located at 501 Cherry Avenue. The hours of operation are Noon to 9 pm Monday through Friday; Noon to 6 pm Saturday; Closed Sunday.
* Wednesday, July 4th hours will be from 12 pm to 4 pm

Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (Central Branch) is located at 201 E. Market Street. The hours of operation are 9 am to 9 pm Monday through Thursday; 9 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday; Closed Sunday.
* Wednesday, July 4th the library will be CLOSED

Water is accessible at all locations.
