Q: U.S. researchers say during the Recession from 2008 to 2011 a greater-than-expected number of Americans searched online for this?

A: stress-related symptoms

ONLINE SEARCHES FOR AILMENTS INCREASE DURING A RECESSION: Did the worst part of the recession stress you out and make you feel ill? U.S. researchers say during the Great Recession from 2008 to 2011 a greater-than-expected number of Americans searched online for stress-related symptoms. To find this, researchers from San Diego State University examined Americans’ Google search patterns, and found people searched more frequently for information about health ailments such as ulcers, headaches and back pain. Researchers say in all there were 200-million excess searches of this kind and say, “While it’s impossible to uncover all the motives for increased searches, they likely indicate a person being ill, and ill enough to seek out online information or remedies.” (UPI)
