U.K. researchers report that working with your hands can curb cravings. When chocoholics manipulated modeling clay for 10 minutes, their desire to eat chocolate abate. Playing with clay engages your “visuospatial memory,” competing for the same brainpower that fuels those fantasies about having come cake or a beer, says study author Jackie Andrade, Ph.D. Solve a Rubik’s cube or make a Silly Putty sculpture; such pursuits offer visual and spatial challenges that can distract you from workday snacking.
