Economists from the Center for Retirement Research say their study reveals that people estimate how long they will live based in part on how long their parents live. Researchers say this means they found that men think they have an average seven-in-ten chance of living to age 75, so they make their plans to retire at age 64. However, men who think they have a lower chance of living to 75 will plan to retire about four months earlier than their peers. Researchers say the sudden death of a parent causes longevity expectations to worsen and individuals then reduced their planned retirement ages. However, researchers say people should be careful as life expectancy keeps increasing. (UPI)
