Q: Info from the National Walkers’ Health Study finds that people who do this are more likely to die before their time.

A: walk slowly

PEOPLE WHO WALK SLOWLY ARE MORE LIKELY TO DIE BEFORE THEIR TIME: You may want to pick up the pace, for your future’s sake. A new analysis of the National Walkers’ Health Study finds that people who walk slowly are more likely to die before their time. The analysis looked at nearly 40-thousand people in a database who walk for exercise, and found that the slowest strollers were up to 44-percent more likely to die of any cause during the nine-year follow-up period compared to those who walked more quickly. The slow-pokes were found to have a higher risk of dyin from heart disease, stroke, heart failure, diabetes and dementia. The greatest risk was associated with walking at an average pace of 24-minutes per mile or slower. Researchers point out this study indicates correlation and not causation, meaning that it’s possible the slow walking was the results of existing health problems. (Women’s Health)
