Q: Doing this with things out of your control makes you seem more credible?

Answer: Apologizing

APOLOGIZING FOR THINGS OUT OF YOUR CONTROL MAKES YOU SEEM MORE CREDIBLE: If you apologize for bad weather or a congested commute you’re likely to seem more credible, according to new research. The research comes from Harvard University, and experts say that apoologizing for things that are not your fault shows you’re taking the victim’s perspective and acknowledging that something bad happened to another person. One researcher says, “These expressions of sympathy lead people to like you more.” Just be careful not to overdo it, as researchers say apologizing too frequently can make you come off as annoying or insincere.
