Q: Doing this into old age might help women maintain their balance?

A: wearing high heels

WEARING HEELS INTO OLD AGE MAY HELP WOMEN MAINTAIN BALANCE: Our balance can start to deteriorate as early as our 30s, but women can fight the effects by wearing heels. Tai chi trainer Mark Peters explains balance starts to go as the communication between the muscles and brain begins to deteriorate. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Chistopher Walker says wearing heels can actually increase a woman’s sense of balance by requiring the wearer to have a sense of how various parts of the body move relative to each other to be able to walk in them. Walker says when a woman stops wearing heels her sense of balance can actually deteriorate. In fact, ballroom dancing, basically exercising in heels, is recommended for women over age 65 since the benefits “are far greater than the risks of falling.” (Daily Mail)
