AMERICANS ON RAISING TAXES (YouGov)
A poll of an undisclosed number of U.S. adults reveals how they feel about taxes:
— 57% say it is sometimes necessary to raise taxes
— 31% say that it never is
— 64% of Democrats say it’s sometimes necessary to do so, versus 50% of Republicans
— On the flip side, 40% of Republicans and 23% of Democrats say it’s never necessary to raise taxes
— Overally, 37% of people said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who had signed a pledge promising no new taxes and to oppose any and all tax increases
— 33% say it makes no difference
— 16% say they’re less likely to vote for that candidate
