Q: A new survey says a person that has too much of this might have a hard time expressing themselves?

A: Caffeine

CAFFEINE ADDICTS MAY HAVE MORE TROUBLE EXPRESSING THEIR FEELINGS: Just how addicted to caffeine are you? A new study reveals that people who consume a lot of caffeine tend to be alexithymic (ey-lek-suh-thahy-mic), a condition that means a person has difficultly recognizing and expressing emotions. Researchers surveyed over 100 university students about their caffeine consumption habits and then measured their susceptibility to anxiety and alexithymia (ey-lek-suh-thahy-mee-uh.) They found those who scored high on the test for alexithymia consumed about twice as much caffeine per day as others. Study leader Mike Lyvers adds that, “Someone with alexithymia might say they have a stomachache when they are actually experiencing grief…A significant subset of alcoholics and drug addicts are alexithymic.” (PopSci)
