Q: A new survey revealed that 53% of people secretly did this while house cleaning. What?

A: Threw out something that another family member wanted to keep.

Spring has sprung and it’s time for spring cleaning. Yes, cleaning house is a boring chore but how much do we shirk the work and let the mess get to excess? According to a scientific survey with SC Johnson, the house hold cleaning products company. Here are some of the findings, based on responses from more than 1200 Americans:

  • 72% would rather have a partner who’s romantic than a clean freak, but 39% said no way could they love a slob. Surprisingly, the guys were pickier as 44% confessed they couldn’t love a slob, while only 34% of the ladies said fuhgeddaboutit.
  • 64% of female respondents prefer someone who is “rough around the edges,” as far as housekeeping goes, compared to 50% of the guys feeling that way.
  • 38% boasted that Martha Stewart would be impressed by their housekeeping skills.
  • But another 38% admitted they only make their beds a few times a week, if that.
  • 33% said they would rather lose 10 pounds than be free of housework, improve their love life or land a promotion.
  • 54% believe that dog lovers are messier than cat lovers.
  • 31% of Democrats get annoyed when the toilet seat is left up, compared to only 19% of Republicans.
  • 73% called men the messiest and only 16% pointed the finger at women.
  • 55% said that others consider them neat freaks, while 29% admitted being the biggest slobs in their home.
  • 34% revealed that they tidied up before the maid arrives.
  • 53% secretly tossed out something that another family member wanted to keep.
  • 66% figured that football fans are messier than baseball fans.
  • 74% cited money as the cause of most family feuds, while just 7% blamed housekeeping.
  • 69% named hair in the bathroom sink as the number 1 thing that drives them bonkers but blobs of toothpaste ran a close second.
