Q: A new study finds that you feel less guilty when you share this?

A: Your dessert

WHY SHARING YOUR DESSERT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER: Who doesn’t enjoy a decadent dessert after a delicious meal? A new study finds to feel guilt-free about indulging, share it. The data shows people feel less guilty about having a sweet treat when it’s someone else’s idea. In an experiment, some volunteers were given the choice of a doing food tasting or writing a 300-word essay on a political issue, while others were simply told they were doing a food tasting. The volunteers who were only given the option of food tasting felt less guilty, and overall had a better mood or “vitality” than those who were given the other option as well. Study author Fangyuan Chan says, “That is why when a friend orders a delicious dessert for you and sort of ‘forces’ you to indulge, your guilt is reduced but you still get to enjoy the vice and so you experience an increase in vitality.”  (Today)
