A: the office restroom
FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH… NOT
64 percent of use flush the toilet with their foot in a public restroom. Why? We’re squeamish about public restrooms — despite the obvious need for them. That’s the word from Bradley Corp.’s annual Healthy Handwashing Survey. And while we may be fastidious about not touching the toilet flusher, we aren’t so careful about washing our hands afterward. 70 percent admitted they only rinse their hands under water and don’t use soap after using a public restroom, up from 54 percent two years ago. So who washes up and who doesn’t? Sixty percent of men and 74 percent of women say they always wash their hands after using a public restroom. And when they don’t wash, they say it’s because there is no soap, the sink is dirty or they used hand sanitizer instead.
The top complaints about public restrooms:
- 82 percent say they smell bad.
- 79 percent say the toilets are either clogged or not flushed.
- 73 percent say the overall appearance is dirty, unkempt or old.
- More than two-thirds of those surveyed said a bad restroom is the same as bad management — so much so that 64 percent said they’ll think twice about patronizing the business again if the restroom is dirty.
- 93 percent say the condition of the office restroom is an indicator of how a company values its workforce.
