Making The Perfect Toast

Marc and I recently found a recipe for the perfect toast. Apparently we’ve been making it all wrong! So, on Will It Work Wednesday we took the instructions step by step and guess what we found out?

Here are the instructions

1. Use normal bread that’s half an inch thick.

2, Set the knob on your toaster to 5 if it goes to 6. If your toaster goes to 10, then set it just past the 8 mark. It’s to get the perfect crunch.

3. Toast it for exactly 3 minutes and 36 seconds. That’s for a 900 watt toaster.

4. Wait exactly 17 seconds before you spread the butter on. You want the butter to absorb into the bread without making it soggy.

Scientists have studied this and say that the ideal piece of toast should be 12 times crunchier on the outside than it is in the middle.

Try it and let us know what you think. These are the pictures of our experience. Epic fail for us.

Update *** My friend Michele from PeoplePlaces.org has the corner on great toast. Here is her recommendation for the perfect toast.

Take a slice of white or wheat (needs to be fresh bread – not day old dry stuff that all you can do with it is toast it).  Slice 5 thin pats of cold butter and put one in each corner and one in the center.  Place the bread in the oven or toaster oven and broil it until the top is a fairly deep golden brown.
When you pull it out of the oven and eat it, each bite has a nice balance of crispy crunch and buttery-ness!  Plus – because you only toasted the one side, the bottom of the bread is still nice and soft – double bonus like  having just baked bread!!
