Update: 07/17/18 ~ It has now been exactly 4 weeks since the initial health scare happened and I have a lot of people asking, so I thought updating this post might be the easiest way to do that.
I actually had another scare at the end of last week and spent a night in the hospital due to a blood clot in my lungs. They don’t know where it came from or why, but the theory is that it formed because I was sedentary in the hospital during the initial issue(explained below). Just like the first problem with the bleeding on the brain, there was only one symptom that was out of the ordinary that made me call my doctor. I was having shortness of breath. It was the vigilance of the doctors and nurses that made me go in for testing and ultimately finding and dealing with the issue. I can’t say this enough…listen to your body and if your doctor thinks you should get a test, do it!
As a result of all of this and because I work with wonderful people, I am switching shifts with Les Sinclair for a while so that I can get more sleep and ease myself back into working. I am so grateful to Les and everyone here at C’ville Radio Group. I am also so thankful to the nurses and doctors that took such great care of me. And to YOU for checking in on me and giving me words of encouragement. I have had so much anxiety through all of this and your stories of getting through similar circumstances gives me hope and means more than you will ever know. You are amazing and I love you very much!

Just a quick note to encourage you to listen to your body and if it is doing something out of character…get it checked!! You, more than anyone, know your body!
I am writing this because this happened to me here at work last week. Here’s the quick story… Tuesday, a week ago, I was still on the air and adding some things to the website. As I was doing this I lost use of my right arm. This is very out of character for me. I am rarely sick and something like this is very strange. It didn’t last more than 10-20 seconds, but it happened and shouldn’t have happened on a random Tuesday at work. So, I found Les and told him what happened and then asked him if I looked like I was having a stroke. He said no. On a normal day I would probably dismiss this because I’m one of those people that doesn’t like to go to the doctor for any reason. However, after about an hour I was still feeling out of sorts, so I decided to see my doctor.
At the doctors office he gave me all of the regular tests that you would give to someone with my symptoms. I passed all of the tests and he said I had no physical signs of the things I should be showing if I’d had a stroke or something like it. However, he still insisted that I get a CT scan that same day. I didn’t want to, but I went anyway and boy am I glad that I did. The scan showed blood on my brain. Thankfully it was a small pool of blood, but any blood is not good and requires testing and hospitalization. I ended up in the ICU at MJH for 4 days. I had amazing nurses and doctors and they took excellent care of me. I had so many that I couldn’t name them all, but the ICU nurses at MJH are incredible!!!!
The good news is that they ruled out all of the scary stuff and we are all hoping that this is a one and done type of situation. However, it takes about a month to get back to normal and I still have to continue to be scanned over the next several months to be sure that there is nothing hiding.
The moral of the story? Don’t dismiss your body when it’s telling you something is off. You’re busy, you have a family, life is hard and stressful, but you’re worth it! Best case scenario, you go to your doctor and have the scan and nothing is wrong! However, good news can be when they find something early too. Be good to yourself!!!
Love you!
