CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- The Virginia women’s swim team took home their sixth NCAA Championship in a row at the McCauley Aquatic Center in Atlanta on Saturday. The Hoos finished with 589 points, besting second place Stanford by 208.5 points. Eight Cavaliers won NCAA titles, 12 were named first-team all-Americans, and 12 more second-team all-Americans. And to add more honors, Anna Moesch, Sara Curtis, Claire Curzan, and Madi Mintenko, who raced in the 400 free relay, set an NCAA-record mark of 3:05.26. Their season, having reached the top step of the podium once again, is now over.
Tennis
No. 15 women’s tennis took down the Florida State Seminoles on Friday evening in Tallahassee, wrapping up the match comfortably after three singles duels went Virginia’s way.
UVA won 4-0. The Miami Hurricanes fared better, scoring one point on the Hoos in singles play for the Cavalier Women sealed their 4-1 victory. They will travel to North Carolina next weekend to face Duke in Durham on Friday, UNC in Chapel Hill on Sunday.
The No. 1 men’s tennis team was in North Carolina this past weekend to face NC State and Wake Forest. The Wolfpack did snag one victory against the Hoos, but Virginia took the rest of the points, winning the match 4-1. Facing the No. 4 Demon Deacons proved to be more difficult for Virginia, and Wake Forest bested the Hoos on the double’s courts, and Dominick Mosejczuk sealed the victory for the Deacs, 4-2. The men will now take their Florida trip, facing Florida State in Tallahassee Friday and Miami in Coral Gables on Sunday.
Lacrosse
No. 19 women’s lacrosse took on No. 10 Syracuse as the late game in a Scott Stadium doubleheader of lacrosse on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the program. A staggering defensive effort from the Orange limited the Hoos to one goal in the second half. The Hoos also kept the Orange quiet in the second half save for one goal in the third quarter, but having already ended the first half with a lead, the Orange took the victory 6-5. Virginia will try to get back in the win column, Wednesday at 6 p.m. against James Madison in Charlottesville, and against Louisville in Kentucky on Saturday at noon.
The Virginia men played in the early game at Scott Stadium on Saturday against the Utah Utes looking their record back to .500 at 4-4. The Wahoo offense ran roughshod over the visitors in the third quarter, scoring seven goals in the third, and four more in the fourth to earn a 16-11 victory. Virginia will look to start a run against Dartmouth on Monday at 7 p.m., before facing No. 1 Notre Dame Saturday at noon. Both games will be in Charlottesville.
Softball
Wild weather in the Northeast cancelled game three of the Hoos’ three-game set in Syracuse against the Orange. Game One was pushed to Saturday, and the doubleheader would be the only Softball that was played for the weekend. Saturday began well for Virginia, with homers from Bella Cabral and Hannah Weismer buoying a complete game from Eden Bigham, who earned her ninth victory of the year in a 7-1 triumph. In Game two, Virginia plated nine before the fourth inning began, weathering a late charge from the Orange offense to win the series 9-4. The Hoos welcome the Liberty Flames on Wednesday at 8 p.m. to Palmer Park, before they play three games this weekend against the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Baseball
A busy five-game week for the Hoos ended in only one loss. Virginia put in two strong offensive performances last Tuesday against Georgetown and Wednesday on the road against Liberty to survive attempts by both teams to close the gap in the late innings. Virginia took down Georgetown 6-4, and Liberty 14-12. That tuned them up nicely to face the No. 24 Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Disharoon Park. Virginia won a dramatic game one 10-6, fell in game two 13-4, and finished the series on a run-rule victory, 14-4 in eight innings. The Hoos head to Virginia Credit Union Stadium in Fredericksburg on Tuesday evening to face the Maryland Terrapins. First pitch is set for 5:20 p.m. Beginning Thursday, Virginia will face the Boston College Eagles in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Brenan Morgan, Colton Washleski, and Gable Porter competed for the Hoos at the NCAA Championships in wrestling. All three fell in Round 1 in their respective weight classes.
Women’s golf finished fifth at the Florida State Matchup this past weekend. The No. 2 men’s golf team finished tied for sixth at the Pauma Valley Invitational.
Virginia track & field got the outdoor season started the right way with nine program records at Lannigan Field on Saturday.
The men’s swim team will race in the NCAA Championships beginning Wednesday.
Finally, No. 9 Virginia rowing takes to the boats in the Doc Hosea Invitational at the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey this Sunday.
