CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — After helping Virginia tennis claim its seventh national title this year, Dylan Dietrich and Jangjun Kim each picked up their first ITF World Tennis Tour Singles titles last week in two different parts of the world.

Dietrich, 2026 ACC Player of the Year, won the ITF World Tennis Tour 15K tournament in Ljubljana, Slovenia on June 7. One week later, Jangjun Kim triumphed in the ITF WTT M15 Tournament in Tokyo on Sunday.

Dietrich, a native of Zurich, Switzerland, again competed for his country for the first time since representing it at the 2025 FISU World University Games. Dietrich went completely undefeated on his run to the final, not losing a single set.  He faced home favorite Jan Kupcic in the final and clinched the tournament win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Dietrich played his best year in a Wahoo uniform to date in the 2025-26 season, going 29-4 in singles play and 26-8 in doubles.  He won the NCAA Doubles Title alongside Mans Dahlberg and was on the court to clinch Virginia’s NCAA title against Texas on the final day of the season.  He will play his final season for Virginia starting this fall.

Kim, a native of Seoul, South Korea, took two wins in qualifying to reach the main draw and then took three singles matches in a row in straight sets to reach the semifinal. Hikaru Shirashi took one set from Kim, but he still took the match to advance to the final.  The Cavalier then took down Naoya Honda in the final, 6-4, 6-2.

Kim went 29-5 in singles play and 23-14 in doubles during the 2025-26 campaign for Virginia.

Track and Field

Virginia track and field earned several All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Jeremiah Nubbe placed fourth in the men’s hammer throw on day one with a mark of 72.52m, good for first team honors.  Fellow Cavalier Nikolaos Polychroniou also earned All-American honors with a tenth-place finish on the second team, throwing 69.48m.

The next day, Christiana Ellina placed sixth in the women’s javelin throw with a mark of 54.99m. Later in the day, NCAA Outdoor Championship debutante Charlotta Sandkulla took 11th in the women’s hammer throw with a 65.57m.

Gary Martin took third in the men’s 1500m with 3:37.21 on day three. Brett Gardener, meanwhile, finished seventh in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase, finishing in 8:38.01. Nathan Mountain finished behind Gardener in ninth, also becoming a Second-Team All-American.  Will Daley also added his name to the list with a 15th place finish in the 5000m.

The final Cavalier to add their name to the All-American list was Celia Rifaterra, who finished 13th in the women’s high jump with a 1.79m mark.

Golf

Virginia golf head Coach Bowen Sargent and Ben James both earned big awards from the ACC last week.  James was named the ACC Golfer of the Year and became only the fifth college golfer in history to become a four-time NCAA All-American.  He is also a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award.  His coach earned his third ACC Coach of the Year award, marking the second straight year he’s claimed the award.

Baseball

UVA rising junior Henry Zatkowski is set to join the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp on June 27. The camp features the top 56 non-draft-eligible college players. He is the first Virginia pitcher invited since Jay Woolfolk in 2023.
