NEW YORK, NY (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – New U.S. News & World Report rankings has the University of Virginia the 4th best public college and university in the country… 24th overall. LaMont Jones, the publication’s managing editor, says UCLA is tops… followed by Cal-Berkeley and Michigan, UVA 4th, and North Carolina 5th. He says UVA excels in value. UVA also does well in outcomes — which is 50% of the criteria — that includes social mobility, post-grad success and ability to get a job in their field, as well as student indebtedness upon graduation.
Princeton, MIT, Harvard, Stanford, and Yale — private colleges all — are the top-5 overall.
