CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville Tom Sox are celebrating one of their own alum starting Game 1 of the World Series Friday night in Toronto.

Trey Yesavage, who spent the summer of 2022 in Cville, starts for the Blue Jays, becoming the first Tom Sox player to appear in the Fall Classic.

The Pottstown, PA native who played college baseball at East Carolina, is only 22-years old and was a mid-September callup who only had three regular season starts.

He was 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA in the regular season, and has pitched 3 games in the postseason where he’s 2-1 with a 4.20 ERA.

The Tom Sox Nathan Schwartz in a release said Yesavage in Charlottesville was “a top option on the mound for the Valley League Champions”.

In his seven appearances, Yesavage posted a 1.73 ERA with 32 strikeouts across 26 innings, which earned him an All-Valley League selection.

The Blue Jays are playing in their first World Series game in 32 years, and are going with the 22-year old as the first rookie to start a World Series game since 2006.

The Tom Sox have been keeping close tabs on Yesavage since he was first called to the Jays to start September 15.
