CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Augusta County Sherriff’s Office personnel responded to a threat made against staff members of Buffalo Gap High School, causing a lockdown at both the high school and Buffalo Gap Middle School.
The sheriff’s office also investigated a bomb threat at Augusta Health, an hour after releasing the news about the school lockdowns. At approximately 4:04 p.m., Augusta Sherriff’s deputies cleared the hospital after a thorough search and allowed the hospital to resume normal operations.
At the two schools, there was a large police presence, and sheriffs established a perimeter around the buildings, but the campus was secured.
“The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and School Superintendent’s Office takes all threats towards our public schools seriously and treats them as credible threats until investigation either confirms or denies the veracity of the threat,” Sheriff Donald Smith said in a statement.
Investigation into both threats remains ongoing.
