Staunton Man’s Charges Upgraded to Second Degree Murder After Child’s Death at UVA Medical Center


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Shane Campbell, a 24-year-old resident of Staunton, now faces a murder charge after the death of a child who suffered injuries in an alleged assault.

Campbell was initially arrested on August 30, 2024, by the Staunton Police Department and charged with Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Felony Abuse and Neglect of a Child.  After the child passed away at the University of Virginia Medical Center on September 2, 2024, the charges were elevated to Second Degree Murder.

Campbell remains in custody at Middle River Regional Jail. The investigation continues, and authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Staunton Police Department at 540.332.3842.
