CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Virginia women’s basketball star guard Kymora Johnson announced that she will be returning to play for the Hoos in the 2026-27 campaign, a source told Cville Right Now.
Johnson will withdraw her name from the transfer portal to play her senior season for new coach Aaron Roussell at her hometown school.

Johnson, a Charlottesville native and former St. Anne’s-Belfield star, entered the transfer portal concurrently with the departure of Amaka Agugua-Hamilton as the program’s head coach.

Last season, the third year set stunning scoring marks throughout the campaign.  She went 10-13 from three point-range, putting up 41 points against Winthrop on December 20, 2025.  Johnson played every single game of the 2025-26 season, and was instrumental in ensuring the Hoos reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2000.

During Virginia’s double-overtime win against Iowa, she put up 28 points and played for the entirety of the contest.

Virginia named Rousell, former coach of the Richmond Spiders, as its new last week, and Johnson’s return adds a great deal of power into the fold as the roster for the upcoming season comes together.
