WASHINGTON, DC (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – President Trump has granted former Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins, convicted late last year by a federal court jury, for taking bribes in exchange for badges making donors auxiliary deputies, an unconditional pardon. The former sheriff, a staunch gun rights advocate, made no secret of administering badges toward what he says was restoration of individuals’ 2nd Amendment rights who for various reasons had their gun rights revoked. He contended the rights he restored were from misguided regulations.

An FBI investigation revealed Jenkins took in $75,000 in what they determined were bribes. In court testimony, Jenkins said the money was campaign donations. He was to report to federal prison Monday to serve a 10-year sentence and instead was issued a pardon. The President posted on his Truth Social platform:

“This Sheriff is a victim of an overzealous Biden Department of Justice, and doesn’t deserve to spend a single day in jail. He is a wonderful person, who was persecuted by the Radical Left “monsters,” and “left for dead, He will NOT be going to jail tomorrow, but instead will have a wonderful and productive life.”

The President didn’t say what brought this matter to his attention, but Jenkins has been on a podcast claiming he was wrongfully convicted for his gun rights advocacy and wanted to bring his case to the President’s attention.
