CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville Police Department charged 18-year-old Albemarle County resident Nasir Dashawn Walker with two counts of attempted malicious wounding and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for his role in a September shooting incident in the 1000 block of South 1st Street, which was followed by a high-speed chase for several miles down Scottsville Road.

Officers were responding to a report of gunshots when another officer saw a vehicle fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. When the officer tried to pull the car after a ran a red light on Avon Street, it failed to yield, and officers began pursuing it.

The chase ended in the 3000 block of Scottsville Road, where officers found an AR-style rifle and an injured 14-year-old inside the vehicle. The juvenile was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver and a second suspect, meanwhile, ran into the nearby woods, leading to two shelter-in-place orders. The other suspect who ran away, a 15-year-old, has already been taken into custody.

Walker was taken into custody on Wednesday in an apartment on Whitewood Road. Following his arrest, CPD detectives obtained a search warrant for the apartment on Whitewood Road and recovered a stolen firearm.
