CPD and ACPD post holiday public safety messages

Downtown Mall/Courtesy City of Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle and Charlottesville Police are putting out public safety notices with ACPD posting photos of suspects in recent larceny, shoplifting, or fraud cases reported at businesses across Albemarle County in the last quarter of 2025.

They’re looking for help identifying them, and anyone who knows anything is urged to call Crime Stopper at 977-4000.

CPD notes theft, including vehicle larceny and package theft, tends to increase this time of year as people travel and shop… so lock up and keep valuables out of sight.

Both departments urge never to leave firearms unattended in a vehicle as Charlottesville and Albemarle Police have both linked guns stolen from vehicles greatly used in violent crimes across the area.

CPD also encourages “everyone to celebrate responsibly. If you choose to drink, plan ahead for a safe ride home and never drive under the influence.”

The social media post also said, “With increased shopping, events, and foot traffic throughout the city, please remain alert for pedestrians and other drivers, especially in commercial areas.”
