CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) bus crash that ended with the vehicle inside a home along Barracks Road last Tuesday was caused by a medical emergency, according to Albemarle County Police.

The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. on March 4 in the 2500 block of Barracks Road. Police say the CAT bus struck three vehicles before veering off the road and crashing into a single-family residence. The bus driver and the homeowner were both transported to UVA Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. No passengers were on board at the time, and no additional injuries were reported.

After an investigation by Albemarle County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team, officials determined that alcohol and speed were not factors. No charges will be filed.

Charlottesville Area Transit said it is thankful the incident did not result in more serious harm. “Safety remains our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring the well-being of our passengers, operators, and the community,” said CAT Marketing Coordinator Alex Pasqualone. The agency also expressed appreciation to Albemarle County Police and Fire Rescue for their fast response and assistance at the scene.
