Charlottesville Assault Victim Dies; Autopsy Results Pending as Investigation Continues

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The victim of a reported assault earlier this month near 4th Street NW and Preston Avenue has died, according to an updated release from the Charlottesville Police Department.

David Harrison Taylor Sr. passed away on March 16, 2025, five days after he was found unresponsive in the roadway following an altercation. Officers who were flagged down around 9:21 p.m. on March 11 provided life-saving measures until medics arrived and transported him to UVA Medical Center.

An autopsy was conducted on March 17 by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond. The cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending further testing. Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The individual identified in the initial incident, 41-year-old Timothy Woode of Charlottesville, remains in custody at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. He was initially charged with Assault and Battery, and police say additional charges are pending.
