CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Barboursville Vineyards has won the 2025 Virginia Governor’s Cup for its 2023 Vermentino, a white wine made from estate-grown grapes. The award was announced March 13 at the Governor’s Cup Gala in Richmond.

The competition, now in its 43rd year, received over 600 entries from more than 140 Virginia producers. Wines were judged on appearance, aroma, flavor, overall quality, and commercial suitability.

This is the sixth Governor’s Cup win for Barboursville Vineyards. Previous awards include their 1988 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, 1997 and 1998 Cabernet Francs, and the 2009 Octagon.

The Vermentino will be featured in the Governor’s Cup Case, which includes the top 12 scoring wines. Other local wineries in the case include King Family Vineyards, Veritas Winery, and DuCard Vineyards.
