CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – UVa head football coach has named Brennan Armstrong the starting quarterback for when the Hoos open at Virginia Tech September 19th. There was a competition during training camp with graduate transfer Keytaon Thompson from Mississippi State… where he had been effective in limited action.

The Shelby, Ohio native becomes the first lefty quarterback to start for UVa since Jameel Sewell in 2009. The redshirt sophomore appeared in 11 career games as backup to UVa star Bryce Perkins — who graduated this year. Armstrong was effective in those short spurts of playing time as a duel-threat to run or throw the ball.

He completed 17 of 25 pass attempts and threw 2 touchdowns.
