On Saturday morning, July 1, 2023, the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville, with the help of the Charlottesville Track Club, and with major support from Better Living Inc. will present the 40th Annual Independence Day 5K Run/Walk. The start/finish line will be at Lakeside Middle School (2801 Powell Creek Dr., 22911), and the course will go through Forest Lakes North and South. Proceeds for the fifth straight year will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge, whose mission is “to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.” Athena Gould, Blue Ridge Bigs executive director, stated: “By partnering with such excellent community groups as the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville, we are able to remain committed to doing what we do best-give kids access to great mentors and positive experiences.” See https://www.blueridgebigs.org/ for more information on BBBS.
Some of the area’s fastest 5K times are recorded at this race, which starts at 7:30 a.m. The event is expected to attract more than 200 runners and walkers of all ages.
