Embracing Caregiver Stories: Lessons on Care, Family, and End-of-Life Decision-Making

Caregiving stories offer powerful lessons in compassion and connection. Our lunch event will feature Dr. Melissa Alemán, Professor of Communication Studies at James Madison University, discussing the importance of caregiver stories and storytelling for understanding visible and invisible challenges, lived experiences of the caregiver journey, and meaning created in late-life and end-of-life caregiving.

Stories provide us with lessons on how “to be” as caregivers, normalize talking about decision-making at the end of life, and affirm our identities as caregivers. This talk embraces the importance of caregiver stories and celebrates the lessons we can draw from the everyday experiences of care in our communities and families.
