The Science Museum of VA is offering Cold Science during Winter Break now thru January 3rd.
It’s winter in the Northern hemisphere so we’re investigating all things cold at the Museum! From winter themed workshops in The Forge to super cool science experiments in the galleries, come beat the winter chills with us! Don’t worry. We’ll still freeze and smash a fruitcake. Check below for details!
Please note: The Museum will have adjusted operating hours during these two weeks. The Museum will be open from 9:30 am – 5 pm, December 21 – 23 and December 26 – January 3. The Museum will resume it’s normal operating hours (9:30 am – 5 pm, Wednesday through Sunday) on January 6.
SuperCool Demos
- Winter is cold, but some things, like liquid nitrogen are SUPER cold! Chill out as we investigate the physical changes that happen when objects are frozen to -321F!
- Daily at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm.
Cold Carts
- Experiment with the amazing physics and chemistry of hot and cold substances at stations throughout the Museum.
- Pop-up cart activities daily throughout the Museum.
The Forge Workshops
- Light up your winter nights by learning to create LED greeting cards or cozy up and think warm thoughts as you learn to weave a winter wonderland on a handmade loom.
- Workshops at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm, Mondays – Fridays and Sundays. Click for the daily schedule.
